MINI for some reason decided to remove all the spare tire mounting parts from the back of the Gen 2 Coopers. Luckily they left all of the studs needed to mount all the needed parts! As we all ditch run flat tires, you need a place to mount the spare. We have now put together a kit that will add all of these parts back under your car so you now have a place to mount your spare tire! It's actually a really easy install with just a 10mm socket and drive. Take a look at the above photos to see where all the parts go on your car until we can get the how-to done; and just be sure not to over tighten the plastic nuts. The two tools included in the kit will fit into the foam tray you already have in place, and it will clear the nut and cap that holds it all together.

Our kit contains:

  • 51-71-8-165-737 ~ T-Handle (1)
  • 07-11-9-907-030 ~ Washer (1)
  • 51-71-7-124-365 ~ Bracket (1)
  • 51-71-7-184-110 ~ Cover (1)
  • 51-71-1-510-375 ~ Plate (1)
  • 31-10-6-783-425 ~ Valve Stem (1)
  • 36-13-6-784-454 ~ Hex Nut (1)
  • 71-10-1-507-977 ~ Wrench (1)
  • 51-71-6-800-127 ~ Spring Cover (1)
  • 41-11-7-044-685 ~ Spring (1)
  • 07-12-9-904-865 ~ Top (1)
  • 16-13-1-183-133 ~ Plastic Nut (1)
  • 07-12-9-905-542 ~ Hex Nut (3)
  • 16-13-1-176-747 ~ Nut (2)
  • 41-11-7-044-687 ~ Spring Guide (1)

Note: Spare Tire not included. This will only fit Gen 2 Cooper (in any country) that do not have the spare tire in place. If you're unsure, just look up under the rear of your car. Sorry, but it will not fit a Cooper S or any other models.

    Easy and Perfect

Posted by Kent. on 24th Feb 2016

Once I received the Tire Mount Kit and Spare Tire, I was able to install relatively straight forward. I watched this video to understand how the assembly worked and the determined the order to install (
Equipment needed: Socket wrench, drop cloth, and flashlight.

Great way to save on replacement tire costs while improving ride and lower road noise with regular tires instead of ROF.

would not own a mini without a spare..this was too easy

Posted by Bart on 18th Nov 2014

This spare tire kit was excellent. Had everything we needed to install and fit like a glove. Customer was happy, seemed like an exspensive proposition but given the options this is well worth the money and peace of mind of having a working spare tire mechanism without losing any trunk space.

only Detroit Tuned sticker was not in the box :( but really kit was great!

DT EDIT: OH NO! how did we forget the stickers! Some are in the mail already! :)

Restoring Your MINI Spare Tire Compartment

Posted by Unknown on 15th Mar 2014

GREAT KIT!! This kit contains everything needed to restore the spare tire compartment that MINI has decided to omit as a production item. It takes about 45 minutes to install. The spare (compact) tire is not included and must be ordered separately.

Editorial Comment: Although run flat tires are designed to run without air, my tire was damaged from a road hazard and the only way to get back to my MINI dealer for repair was to wait for MINI Roadside Assistance's flatbed truck to arrive. This was a 3 hour wait. If my 2014 MINI Convertible had come from the factory with a spare, I could have changed the tire myself and saved over 2 hours of waiting by the side of the road.
