We have found that some MINIs, with mid to high mileage, have the oil cooler seals fail. They dry out and get hard, which allows an oil leak to develop between the oil cooler and oil filter housing. At first it can start as a drip, but it can quickly grow to a small spray. These seals are sold in sets of 2 so that you have all the seals needed to do the job in one package. You may want to consider changing the oil and filter at the same time. We highly recommend removing the filter during replacement of these seals to keep the oil from draining over the seals during the install.

We also recommend putting new seals in during an oil cooler install.

MINI Torque spec for the housing bolts is 9 ft lbs.

Oil Cooler seals - in a hurry

Posted by Erin on 18th Feb 2016

I needed these quick, went thru Detroit tuned because of their proximity to me and the likely hood of not needing to pay next day air charges to get the order in. They got me squared away quick, was nearly a next day arrival.

Have found the seals cheaper, but I'll stick with a service that's on point for a little extra, rather than be dragged along like ECS will do with 2-3 days of lag prior to shipping.

Seals were an easy install, perfect fit, definitely was a source of oil leak for me. Only did them because I was already doing the filter housing gasket. Good move on my part-

    Thanks D-tuned
